Frequently asked questions

What gauze do dentists use?

Many dental offices use 2 × 2 in gauze sponges like these for chairside work, and 4 × 4 in sponges where a larger pad is needed. Non-woven gauze is a common choice because it is soft and tends to leave fewer loose fibres than woven cotton gauze.

What is the difference between woven and non-woven gauze?

Woven gauze is made of cotton threads woven into a grid. Non-woven gauze is made of fibres pressed or bonded together, so it has no threads to unravel. Non-woven gauze is usually softer and tends to shed fewer fibres.

Is this gauze sterile?

No. The bag is printed Non-Sterile. If a procedure calls for sterile gauze, use a sterile product instead.

What size is 2x2 gauze in cm?

About 5 × 5 cm. Each sponge is 2 × 2 in, and 2 in is 5.08 cm. A 4 × 4 sponge is about 10 × 10 cm, four times the area. See Gauze 4 x 4 - Non woven 4ply - 2000/pk.

Can I order dental gauze if I am not a dental office?

Yes. Anyone can order. EBIKO ships from Ontario across Canada, and prices are in Canadian dollars. If you need gauze after a tooth extraction, use it only as directed by your dentist or oral surgeon.
