Surgical aspirator tip vs HVE tip vs saliva ejector

  • Surgical aspirator tip: a narrow, angled tip for precise suction in a small area, such as an extraction or surgical site. This is the product on this page.
  • HVE tip (high-volume evacuation): a wide, rigid tip on the high-volume line. The assistant or hygienist holds it near the tooth to remove water spray and debris during handpiece and scaler work. See HVE suction tips and short HVE tips.
  • Saliva ejector (low-volume suction): a narrow, flexible tube on the low-volume line. It removes saliva and water that pool in the mouth and is often left in place during treatment. See saliva ejectors.

Looking for tips that spray air and water instead? See air/water syringe tips.

Frequently asked questions

What are surgical aspirator tips used for in dentistry?

Precise suction in a small area. Dentists and oral surgeons use them to clear blood, rinse water and debris from an extraction or surgical site, where a wide HVE tip would be too large.

Which colour is which size?

Blue is 1/16 in, white is 1/8 in and green is 1/4 in.

Is each pack a mix of sizes?

No. Each pack holds 25 tips of the one size you select.

Are surgical aspirator tips autoclavable?

They are sold as disposable plastic tips. Use a new tip for each patient.

Will these tips fit my suction valve?

Check before you order. The fraction identifies the tip size. Confirm that the connector end fits your suction valve or adaptor.
